Someone Cares Soup Kitchen
I was lucky enough to take an "Available Light" class at Cypress College, under the direction of Cliff Lester (who is such an awesome teacher and photographer). We were given a project called "Stories that Need to be Told." I had heard some great things about the "Someone Cares Soup Kitchen" in Santa Ana, and thought that would be a cool story to tell. I spent about 5 hours at the kitchen, and saw the entire process from start to finish. I was amazed at the amount of food they serve, and really touched by the people who showed up for a warm lunch. All ages of people, and I was especially moved by the families that had young children. Breaks my heart to think someone can not afford to feed their children - especially here in Orange County. There was a big shelf with lots of bread that people could take with them. Just so sad to really see hunger. I was really humbled by the entire process. The intent of the project was to make sure it was interesting not only because of the subject matter, but because of the use of the light. It was fun and challenging!
